Migliarina Wines was founded by Carsten Migliarina in 2002 when he produced his first wine under his own label. Starting very small, the first production consisted of a Sauvignon Blanc and a Shiraz, both from Franschhoek. The Shiraz was matured in a friends garage.

"Often at tastings I am asked 'Where are you' in the context of where my estate is. My reply is 'Right in front of you.' I do not own a wine farm. I am not unhappy about this as it allows me the freedom to source the best vineyards I can find."

Meet the Winemaker: Carsten
Born in Namibia and raised in South Africa, Carsten’s interest in all things wine started at the tender age of 14 when he attempted to ferment table grapes. Pursuing his passion for wine, he spent 10 years in the catering industry as sommelier, including Le Pont de la Tour in London and the Grande Roche in Paarl and then earned his winemaking stripes as contract winemaker in South-Africa, Germany and Romania and of course making his own wine. His most recent winemaking adventure took him to China, where he participated in the Ningxia Wine Challenge.
