Wine Tasting Notes:
On colour
Bellevue Pinotage Reserve 2020 pours an intense deep ruby with a near-opaque core and a narrow purple-garnet rim, reflecting both concentration and the first signs of gentle development. The hue is glossy and saturated, pointing to old-vine Bottelary fruit and assertive extraction that remains limpid rather than murky, suggesting power with polish.
On the nose
The nose is pronounced and perfumed, bursting with sweet-sour raspberry, maraschino cherry and ripe plum, layered over darker berry tones and a subtle violet lift. Underneath the fruit sit cedarwood, hints of dark chocolate and baking spice, with a savoury umami and faint smoky nuance that add complexity and frame the exuberant fruit.
On the palate
On the palate the wine is dry, full-bodied and richly textured, delivering dense flavours of raspberry coulis, maraschino cherry, ripe plum and black raspberry, carried by concentrated fruit weight and vibrant yet integrated acidity. Fine, compact tannins and well-judged oak bring cedar, cocoa and a savoury, almost soy-like umami note, leading to a long, clean, powerful finish that promises excellent ageing potential.
On the whole
A lush, powerful Pinotage, all sweet-sour red fruit, dark berries and cedar-spiced depth wrapped in fine tannins and a long, savoury finish.
