Wine Tasting Notes:
On colour
Bellevue Estate Pinotage 2019 presents a deep ruby core with a developing garnet rim, suggesting some bottle evolution while still retaining a vibrant, dense hue typical of well-ripened Bottelary Pinotage fruit. The colour intensity is high, pointing to ripe skins and confident extraction, yet the wine remains bright rather than opaque, hinting at balance rather than heaviness.
On the nose
The nose is pronounced and fruit-driven, with ripe black cherry, plum, mulberry and blackberry supported by lifted red plum, raspberry and cherry notes. Subtle smokiness reminiscent of a distant braai, rooibos tea, dark chocolate, vanilla-scented American oak and a touch of earthy spice add savoury complexity to the generous fruit.
On the palate
On the palate the wine is dry, full-bodied and velvety, showing a juicy dark-fruit core of mulberry, damson, black cherry and redcurrant framed by soft, rounded tannins and food-friendly acidity. Smoky spice, clove and black pepper, together with rooibos, dark chocolate and vanilla from 12 months in American oak, lend a savoury, gently toasty character that leads into a long, warm, lingering finish.
On the whole
A bold, smooth, fruit-laden Pinotage with smoky dark berries, gentle sweet spice and a lingering, velvety finish.
