Grapes are hand-picked from bush vines then crushed and destemmed into stainless steel tanks for fermentation.
Biodynamic yeast is used to inoculate the fermentation to enhance and preserve terroir characters.
After fermentation the wine is gently pressed and transferred to tanks for malo-lactic conversion.
After completion the wine is racked to specially selected 300L barrels for ageing between 16 and 18 months.
After blending the wine is aged in concrete tanks until bottling.
Wine Tasting Notes:
On colour
Kaapzicht The Terroir Range Rooiland Pinotage 2021 would show a deep ruby core with a bright purple rim, indicating youthful intensity and ripe skins from low‑yielding bush vines. The colour would be vivid but still limpid, suggesting concentration without excessive extraction.
On the nose
On the nose it is likely pronounced and fruit‑forward, with generous blackberry, mulberry and black cherry at the core. Subtle cedarwood, vanilla spice and a touch of cocoa, together with a hint of earth and dried herbs, would give a modern but classically South African Pinotage character.
On the palate
On the palate the wine should be dry, medium‑ to full‑bodied and smoothly textured, showing juicy flavours of blackberry, mulberry and blackcurrant supported by medium+ acidity. Supple, well‑integrated tannins and notes of sweet oak, vanilla and gentle spice would create a plush mid‑palate and a warm, lingering finish that remains approachable even in youth.
On the whole
A generously fruited yet polished Pinotage, combining ripe dark berries, soft tannins and subtle oak spice in an easy‑drinking but satisfying style.
