Skraalhans is a gangly weed found in our vineyards, often growing taller than the Bush vines themselves. Our hands-off approach has allowed the vineyards to shine through, giving the wine a profound sense of place. This new, vibrant version of Pinotage is bright, fresh and elegant
Wine Tasting Notes:
On colour
In the glass the Kaapzicht Skraalhans 2024 shows a bright, youthful ruby core with a slight purple tint at the rim, reflecting its young age and fresh-fruit style. The intensity is medium, more in line with a lighter-bodied red, and the wine appears limpid and clean with no sign of extraction-driven opacity.
On the nose
The nose is medium to medium-plus in intensity, opening with vivid red fruit such as cherry, redcurrant and wild berries, supported by riper notes of plum and blackberry that reflect the slightly later picking compared with earlier vintages. Subtle floral and herbal hints, together with a faint vanilla or sweet spice edge, add complexity while the overall impression remains fresh and fruit-driven rather than oak-dominated.
On the palate
On the palate the wine is dry with medium body, elevated, refreshing acidity and fine, sweet-edged tannins that give a supple, approachable texture. Flavours mirror the nose, led by red cherry, raspberry and mulberry, layered with darker blackberry and plum, and the finish is bright and plush, carried by juicy fruit rather than heaviness or overt alcohol.
On the whole
A bright, supple, red-fruited Pinotage with refreshing acidity and a plush, easy-drinking finish.
