Skraalhans is a gangly weed found in our vineyards, often growing taller than the Bush vines themselves. Our hands-off approach has allowed the vineyards to shine through, giving the wine a profound sense of place. This new, vibrant version of Pinotage is bright, fresh and elegant
Wine Tasting Notes:
On colour
The Kaapzicht Skraalhans Pinotage 2023 presents a medium purplish-red hue in the glass, clear and attractive, hinting at its youthful vibrancy and freshness.
On the nose
The aromatic profile is dominated by bright red fruits, particularly notes of cherry, raspberry, and mulberry, giving the wine an immediate impression of freshness. These are joined by undertones of plum, with delicate supporting shades of tobacco and licorice, lightly accented by a subtle, smoky character that suggests gentle oak maturation.
On the palate
On tasting, the wine confirms its fruit-forward nature, with a lively and juicy mid-palate showcasing those same red and dark fruits. The texture is vibrant, marked by sweet, supple tannins that provide plushness without heaviness. Thereβs structure but also a bright acidity, resulting in a mouthfeel that is both refreshing and refined, leading to a long, plush, and elegant finish.
On the whole
A fresh, plush, and vibrant Pinotage, bursting with red fruits and elegant complexity
