Wine Tasting Notes:
On colour
Kaapzicht Steytler Vision 2021 shows a deep ruby to near-opaque core with a youthful purple rim, signalling high concentration and a sizeable Cabernet and Pinotage component. The colour is dense yet bright, indicating ripe skins and careful extraction rather than over-extraction or heaviness.
On the nose
The nose is pronounced and brooding, with generous cassis, blackberries and blueberries layered over dark plum and black cherry. Supporting notes of vanilla, cocoa, pencil shavings and sweet baking spice from new French oak, together with a subtle earthy, inky undertone, give a complex, multi-dimensional aroma profile.
On the palate
On the palate the wine is dry, full-bodied and powerful, delivering dense blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry fruit wrapped in a tightly woven, firmly structured frame. Fine yet grippy tannins, fresh acidity and layered oak notes of vanilla, spice and cocoa drive a long, persistent finish, with clear capacity for 10–15 years of further bottle development.
On the whole
A seriously concentrated Cape Blend, uniting cassis-rich Cabernet and dark, savoury Pinotage in a tightly structured, oak-spiced frame built for long ageing.
