The Beyerskloof Synergy Cape Blend 2022 (South Africa) is a vibrant, medium-deep ruby wine.
On the nose, expect aromas bursting with ripe red and black fruits—think juicy plum, black cherry, and a touch of cranberry—lifted by hints of pepper, dried herbs, and subtle oak spice (cedar, vanilla).
On the palate, it’s dry with fresh, medium (+) acidity and supple, medium tannins, offering a harmonious mix of redcurrant, blackberry, and a savory edge of fynbos-like earthiness. The oak is well-integrated, adding a whisper of dark chocolate and tobacco, while the medium-bodied structure leads to a balanced, medium-length finish with a peppery kick.
A modern, food-friendly Cape Blend (typically Pinotage-led), it’s perfect for grilled meats, game, or mushroom dishes.
Aging Potential:
Drinks beautifully now with potential for short-term aging (3–5 years).
Vintage Notes:
We had ideal winter conditions that suplemented water reserves and cotributed to even growth, which provided an excellent foundation for the 2022 crop. Following a cool run-up to the season, sudden heat peaks in December and January resulted in sunburn damage on certain vineyard blocks. At the same time, we experienced unexpected rainfall, which led to high disease pressure that caused challenges in minimising the effects of powdery and downy mildew. As temperatures remained moderate throughout the rest of the season, the grapes took their time to reach optimum ripeness, and the start of harvest was delayed by 10-14 days.
The 2022 crop was larger than 2021 due to ideal winter conditions. Judging by the quality of the 2022 vintage wines currently in the cellar, we anticipate another classic Stellenbosch vintage.
