Grape Varieties:
100% Pinot Noir
Wine Making Method and Maturation:
Traditional methods and a considered lack of intervention allows the Pinot to express itself in the cellar. The wine will stay in the tank for 6-8 weeks and then pressed off into small French oak vats and left to mature for 10 months.
Wine Tasting Notes:
On colour
Domaine Des Dieux Josephine Pinot Noir 2017 shows a pale to medium ruby core shading to a brick-tinged garnet rim, reflecting some bottle development while retaining translucency typical of cool-climate Hemel-en-Aarde Pinot Noir. The colour is limpid and gently evolved rather than dense, suggesting a wine built more on finesse and aromatic complexity than sheer concentration.
On the nose
The nose is fragrant and gently maturing, with sour cherry, cranberry and wild strawberry interwoven with dried red fruits and a touch of red plum. Subtle earthy tones, cinnamon-like sweet spice, leather and a hint of smoke add savoury depth, giving an autumnal, forest-floor complexity to the delicate fruit.
On the palate
On the palate the wine is dry, medium-bodied and finely balanced, showing bright red cherry, cranberry and pomegranate notes carried by fresh, lively acidity. Supple, resolved tannins and emerging leather, earthy spice and gentle smoky nuances lead into a medium to long, savoury finish that underlines the wine’s graceful evolution rather than power.
On the whole
An elegant, tertiary-tinged cool-climate Pinot Noir, marrying bright red fruit with gentle earthy, spicy development in a refined, medium-bodied frame.
