Grape Varieties:
100% Chardonnay
About the wine:
In certain years the opportunity presents itself to produce an exceptional Cap Classique. It is in these years that we strive to produce, always in limited production, our Anna Louise Cuvee - A culmination of excellence.
This wine is named in memory of a great grandmother, both elegant and endearing much like Anna Louise herself. A limited production of 2795 bottles will find their way into the hearts and homes of a select few Cap Classique affectionados from September 2022.
Wine Making Maturation and Method:
Only the Cuvee fraction (400L/ton) of Chardonnay, gently extracted via whole bunch pressing, is used for the production of our Anna Louise.
Fermention takes place in stainless steel tanks, to preserve acidity, before being bottled on 8 Sep 2011.
A lady of her caliber can’t be rushed, demonstrated by 7 years of lees aging followed by a further 4 years on cork before release.
A dosage made of barrel fermented Chardonnay base wine adds another level of complexity and richness to this Cap Classique, allowing for minimum addition of sugar.
The 2011 Anna Louise, our maiden vintage, took 11 years to be perfected by time.
Wine Tasting Notes:
On colour
Domaine Des Dieux Anna Louise Cuvée Cap Classique 2011 shows a bright, light lemon-gold colour with fine, persistent bubbles and a delicate, creamy mousse that speaks of long lees ageing and 100% Chardonnay fruit. The colour has a subtle depth and luminosity that suggests both maturity and freshness, hinting at a complex, autolytic style rather than simple primary fruit.
On the nose
The nose is refined and expressive, offering sweet pear and white peach alongside ripe, baked apple and citrus peel, all wrapped in a gentle lemon-curd creaminess. Underneath the fruit lie pronounced brioche, biscuit and doughy pastry notes, with hints of nuts and subtle oxidative tones that contribute to a layered, Champagne-like complexity.
On the palate
On the palate the wine is dry, high in acidity and mouth-filling, with concentrated flavours of baked apple, pear, peach and citrus framed by a taut, chiselled backbone. Cream, toast and brioche notes from extended lees contact bring richness and breadth, while the brisk acidity and low dosage keep the finish long, pithy and vibrantly refreshing rather than heavy.
On the whole
A complex, brioche-laden blanc de blancs, marrying ripe stone fruit and baked apple with taut acidity, creamy mousse and long, toasty, lees-driven depth.
